National Junior Honor Society
Advisor: Troy Holdcraft
The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the National Honor Society in chapters across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Induction into the National Junior Honor Society is a prestigious distinction awarded only to the most proficient students. Few students are nominated for induction, and even fewer are accepted.
Each year, following the NJHS national guidelines, Honor Society Chapters throughout the country commit countless hours to school and community service projects as well as fundraisers for local, national, and international charities. Instilling these values early in life helps to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of service.
Nominated students are meticulously reviewed for the five qualities each National Junior Honor Society member must possess. Those five characteristics are again scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character.
As a group, we work to better the community as well as ourselves. In previous years we have raised money for many charitable causes, such as the thirst project. We have donated Easter baskets, participated in Toys for Tots drives, and collected canned foods for local food banks. We also participate yearly in a War of the Wits competition involving the local schools. This contest is fast paces and stimulates brain activity. This year, we have candy grams, Easter peep grams, and bake goods in order to raise money for local Buena charities. Total we have raised over 1,500 dollars that went to local families in need and the Thirsts project. We will be involved in many more projects as the year progresses.
Student Council
Advisors: Mrs. Mazza and Mrs. Riggione
BRMS Student Council is comprised of students who demonstrate leadership qualities and want to improve their school and local communities. Each year students are elected as school officers who help lead our daily pledge of allegiance, morning announcements and joke of the day. There are also student representatives who assist administration with various school activities throughout the year such as: Feel Good Fridays, Spirit Week, Week of Respect and Red Ribbon Week, and our Annual Canned Food Drive, just to name a few. Mrs. Mazza and Mrs. Riggione are the group’s Student Council advisors.
